Featured Storyline Project
Title
Basic Audio Edits in Reaper
Audience
The learners are new hires at Silk City Voice, a fictional voiceover company. The new hires work remotely across the United States.
Business Problem
Thanks to a successful marketing campaign, current staff are unable to meet current and projected demand. Unfortunately, this means that Silk City Voice is losing profit margin due to unfulfilled orders and requests.
Solution
Silk City Voice will increase profits by training newly hired voiceover artists to make basic audio edits in Reaper. Voiceover artists employed by Silk City Voice use the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Reaper to record and edit their own audio, so this training focuses on training new hires on Reaper basics. Successful onboarding would mean the new hires are able to learn basic audio edits in Reaper and begin meeting weekly goals within two months of hire.

Lessons Learned
One of the key lessons I learned actually came from something I didn't do. Since this project featured a fictional company, I had to imagine the start and end of the ADDIE process. It's crucial to always begin with a thorough Needs Analysis to determine if learning is the right solution to issue at hand. Equally important is wrapping up with a comprehensive evaluation to check if the learners gained the necessary skills and if those skills solved the business problem. This full-circle approach ensures that the training is both effective and aligned with the organization's goals.

Sound System Basics
Audience
The learners are wedding day coordinators employed by the fictional wedding planning company Your Day Your Way.
Business Problem
Rehearsals, ceremonies, and receptions often take place in locations with no sound system: barns, backyards, and beaches. Your Day Your Way has purchased a new company sound system so that customers can rent directly from us instead of a third party. However, Your Day Your Way Coordinators have little to no experience setting up or operating sound systems. Without proper training a panel of knobs and a case of cables is intimidating and overwhelming. Feedback, volume issues, or other sound problems can bring guests back to reality and lose the magic of the moment. This can lead to dissatisfied customers and negative reviews.
Solution
Your Day Your Way will reduce costs and increase profit by training Wedding Day Coordinators to set up and operate the new company-owned sound system. Without the need for a third party sound system rental, we anticipate a direct cost reduction of approximately 10%, resulting in a projected profit increase of approximately 12% for each event.

Lessons Learned
Securing buy-in from adult learners hinges on the relevance and direct application of the training content to their work. I was able to create a training program that was embraced by the Your Day Your Way wedding coordinators. This experience underscored the importance of the principles of Adult Learning Theory and has significantly influenced my approach to instructional design in subsequent projects.
